Lift Truck Battery Safety
The power to run electric forklifts is provided by huge industrial batteries which need to be charged regularly and maintained properly. Safety procedures must be followed when connecting the battery to the charger. It is very vital to inspect fluid levels in the battery.
PPE - Personal Protective Equipment
It is important for employees working with a lift truck battery to wear eye protection. Other PPG include safety glasses, goggles, or a full face shield. The best way to protect clothing and skin from leaked acid or other residue is to wear thick rubber gloves on the hands and an approved apron on the body.
Emergency Eyewash Station
Near the charging place must be an emergency eyewash post. The route to the post should not be blocked and an injured employee must be able to go to the eyewash station from the charging area within 10 seconds without running.
Charger Safety
The charger must be the same amperage as the battery. It should be turned off when the battery is being plugged in.
Open Flames
Open flames are not allowed in the vicinity of a battery and charging area. Never allow things like lighters or matches to be utilized when an employee is inspecting the fluid levels in the battery.
Ventilation
It is essential to keep the battery charging place correctly ventilated. The recharging method could release gas. These gases are both explosive and poisonous.
