For most of indoor applications, a lift truck is operated with the use of cushioned tires that mean they are made out of solid rubber tires. The pneumatic type of tires is the best choice for outdoor applications. Pneumatic tires are common for heavy cargo and can be used on dirt roads and on asphalt surfaces.
Propane powered lift trucks are believed to be safe for the most part and has a reputation for being a clean burning fuel source. If the engine or equipment is not maintained or tuned up properly, then the propane powered engine can produce CO or carbon monoxide, along with other corrosive oxides of nitrogen. Any internal engine that is not in optional running form can have a similar situation occur. These gases which are produced could be really harmful within improperly ventilated or confined spaces.
Compared to diesel and gasoline powered forklifts, propane models emit less harmful gases. Propane has a simple chemical structure. As it is a gas, propane mixes really well with air, as opposed to gasoline or diesel and burns at a low temperature. Corrosive oxides of nitrogen created during propane combustion in the engine are a lot less compared to those emitted by a gas or diesel engine. Hence, the engine of a propane forklift normally lasts much longer than a gasoline or diesel powered forklift model.
Internal combustion engines work by sucking in air from the surrounding area. This air reacts with the fuel causing it to burn. A 60 horse-power lift truck must breath in 5000 cubic feet of air per minute in order to work. Prior to operation, it is recommended to switch on a propane lift truck outside and let it warm up for a bit. This is due to the carbon monoxide emissions as they read higher from a cold propane-powered engine or equipment and become less potent after the machine has had a chance to warm up.
Electric lift trucks do not get used outside in the rain because it is feared the rain can damage the battery. A hazardous situation could happen since an electric forklift can short out because of rainwater getting in.
On the other hand, propane forklifts work well in the rain. The propane is stored in the well sealed tanks on board. This means there is no chance of a rainstorm interrupting an operator's work. Propane forklifts are extremely versatile and can be used both indoors and outdoors. Gasoline and diesel powered lift trucks can suffocate you accidentally with harmful gases if they are used indoors. A properly tuned up and well maintained lift truck is a good way to handle your loads in a safe and effective manner.
